Hello and welcome! I thought to explain what the categories entail.
ATTITUDE: “Philosophy” was too for a mobile screen; but it is in fact the title of this category. The philosophy helps you along the route to building your practice. Here we also explore the philosophical aspect of all the categories
0: Zero is a sort of introductory practice. It is for beginners and time-challenging lifestyles.
1: The Primary Series, Yoga Chikitsa, is Yoga therapy.
2: The Intermediate Series, Nadi Shodana is the purification practice with a specific focus on the nervous system.
3: The third series, Sthira Bhaga, you begin to play with gravity. Sthira translates as “strong,” “stable,” “steady” and “resolute” while bhaga means “prosperity,” “good fortune” and “happiness.” The term is often translated as “strength and grace,” but also as “divine stability” and “sublime serenity.”
4-6: The advanced series in Ashtanga Yoga - Advanced B (4th Series), Advanced C (5th Series), and Advanced D (6th Series) - represent the pinnacle of physical asana practice, undertaken by only a handful of practitioners worldwide. Following Sthira Bhaga A (Advanced A), these sequences contain some of the most demanding and intricate asanas in the yoga tradition.
Advanced B deepens the exploration of gravity-defying movements, featuring complex arm balances and extreme spinal movements that require extraordinary strength, flexibility, and control.
Advanced C further intensifies the practice with elaborate sequences that demand complete mastery of breath, bandhas, and subtle energetic awareness.
Advanced D, the final series, represents the absolute culmination of physical asana practice in the Ashtanga system, though paradoxically, at this level of practice, the physical intensity becomes secondary to the profound spiritual transformation it facilitates.
These advanced series are rarely taught or practiced publicly, maintaining a certain mystique within the Ashtanga tradition, and serve as a reminder that the physical practice, no matter how advanced, remains a tool for deeper spiritual evolution.
